Sneak Preview of Singapore’s Opulent History

Singapore is well-known for its modernity and high standard of lifestyle. The first description of Singapore is found in the annals of Chine history, where it’s referred as ‘Pu-luo-chung’ that means ‘A land at the tip of Peninsula’. When it comes to possession of its present name, an interesting tale is associated with it. Once, Sang Nila Utama, a Sumataran prince landed on this island accidently. What he saw on this island was a lion. Later on the prince established a city here, and gave it name as ‘Singapura’ that means a ‘Lion City’.

Singapore, situated just off the southern tip of Malay Peninsula, had become an important center of trade between the East and the West during 1300s. Singapore that we know today is an outcome of the attempts done by a British civil servant ‘Sir Stamford Raffles’.

He first understood the advantages of the strategic location this obscure fishing village, and set up a trading post here. He later on signed up an agreement with Sultan of Johar, and laid the foundation for a Modern Singapore. In 1965, Singapore became independent state under the leadership of Lee Kaun Yew. The nation got a scorching pace of development and became a stable economy in short span of time. However, even today evidences of its opulent history are visible throughout the state.
