Mumbai – Something Exotic for Everyone

How stupid might be the Portuguese when they gave Mumbai, Bombay at that time, to England’s Charles II as part of dowry of Catarina Henriqueta. Perhaps they underrated the potentials of a small fishing town, and considered it a swampy, mosquito infested and marshy Island. The East India Company got it on leased and gave the city an interesting phenomenon arose. But even they didn’t know that this small natural harbor would be one day the busiest port of the subcontinent and its centerfield for finance, industry and trade.

Mumbai, the capital of Maharashtra, is one of the most vibrant metropolises in the world, and has gradually been adding several feathers on its crown. It’s India’s largest city, industrial powerhouse, fashion hub, the busiest port, commercial capital – this list is quite long. Nestled on the western coast of the country, Mumbai is the most attractive city in India. It generates about 5% of India’s total GDP, and is one of the richest cities in the country. However, what makes it alluring to the backpackers is that the city thrives on contrasts. From sleek limousine to lousy cycles, high-rising skyscrapers to crowded ugly slums and the richest industrialists to homeless beggars, Mumbai has it all. Home to some 13 million Indians, this vibrant city is a wonder by itself.

Mumbai boasts an array of tourist attractions, and hence is the perfect place for holidaying. From historical landmarks to enchanting beaches, and astounding temples to heart-throbbing nightlife, Mumbai has something exotic for everyone. Some popular tourist places in the city include the Gateway of India, Town Hall, Marine Drive, Haji Ali, Hanging Garden and Prince of the Wales Museum. Accommodation facilities in Mumbai are of world class, and capacious enough to cater every lifestyle and budget. Mumbai hotels range from five-star luxury hotel to the budget-friendly ones, and ensure the travelers stay to match their profile. Since Mumbai hotels get occupied very soon, especially during peak seasons of Christmas and New Year, it’s better to reserve your suited property well ahead. However, a variety of packages like Mumbai packages and Goa package are available in market, making it easy to plan a Mumbai trip to holiday tour to somewhere else.
